Crysis VR

Crysis (2007) in VR, standalone on Meta Quest 3 via WinlatorXR.

About

fholger's Crysis VR mod running standalone on Meta Quest 3 through WinlatorXR (Wine + Box64 + DXVK). No PC needed while playing.

Early beta: Crysis is very CPU-heavy and Box64 has to emulate it, so expect roughly 20-40 fps. WinlatorXR's reprojection keeps head tracking smooth.

Features

  • Full 6DOF with motion controllers and two-handed aiming
  • Holster weapons at hip, shoulder and chest
  • Binoculars on a panel at your left hand; scope zoom when raised to the eye
  • Nanosuit menu by hand gesture
  • Tuned Quest performance settings

Installation

  1. cats-27: unzip CrysisVR-Installer-Beta-0.3.zip, copy Crysis to /sdcard/Download/Crysis and the package to /sdcard/Download/CrysisVR-Setup, then run install.cmd inside the container.
  2. dawn: unzip CrysisVR-Dawn-0.3.zip straight into your Crysis folder and import the included .wxrprofile.json container profile - no installer. See README_DAWN.txt.
  3. Container: screen 1792x1624 (or 1592x1440 for a few more fps), DXVK, wrapper/Turnip, drive D: mapped to /sdcard/Download.
  4. Launch D:\Crysis\Bin32\CrysisVR.exe (use the 32-bit launcher).

Good to know

  • Water quality must stay above Low, or the ocean is drawn across the sky.
  • The default preset is 1792×1624; the VR launcher is already large-address-aware, so no exe patch is needed. Use 1592×1440 for a few more fps.
  • Menus are shown on WinlatorXR's flat screen and follow your head. vr_winlatorxr_menu_panel 1 pins them in the room (experimental).

Download

Install from your browser

Over USB, for Meta Quest 3: installs or updates WinlatorXR, copies your own Crysis folder and unpacks the VR mod into it. It checks for the newest WinlatorXR release (WinlatorXR-dawn-42.apk) first. USB install works in Chrome or Edge on a PC or Mac. On the headset, open this page in the Meta Quest Browser to download WinlatorXR and the mod directly.

The installer needs JavaScript. Use the manual download below.

First time? Before you start
  1. Turn on developer mode: Meta Horizon app on your phone → Devices → your headset → Headset settings → Developer mode.
  2. Connect the headset to this computer with a USB cable that carries data (not a charge-only cable).
  3. Close SideQuest and Meta Quest Developer Hub. If you use adb, run adb kill-server first: only one program can talk to the headset at a time.
  4. Windows: if the headset doesn't show up in the list, install the Meta Quest ADB driver.
  5. After pressing Connect, put on the headset and allow USB debugging for this computer.
  6. Copying a game folder takes a few minutes for big games; keep the headset plugged in and awake.
