About

Speed Dreams 2.4 as a standalone headset application: stereo rendering through OpenXR, a curved menu panel, and the full game in one APK. Another 74 tracks and 90 cars can be downloaded from inside the headset.

One APK covers both makes. The game asks the headset's OpenXR runtime what it supports and configures itself from the answer, so there is no separate PICO download and nothing to choose at install time. The PICO side is brand new and not tested on PICO hardware yet: reports are very welcome.

Installation

  1. Enable developer mode on your headset.
  2. Download the APK below: the same one runs on Meta Quest and on PICO.
  3. Sideload it with SideQuest or adb install -r <file>.apk. SideQuest is a Quest tool, so on PICO use adb or whichever sideloader you already use.
  4. Launch it from Library → Unknown Sources.

The first launch takes an extra half minute while the game data is unpacked to /sdcard/SpeedDreamsVR. Updates reuse it: just install the new APK.

Good to know

  • /sdcard/SpeedDreamsVR/vr.cfg holds eye buffer scale, refresh rate, antialiasing, foveated rendering, mirror position and steering curve.
  • If a track won't hold frame rate, turn the sky dome off first.
  • Practice and qualifying run one car at a time: use Quick Race or a championship to race opponents.
  • The PICO build is untested: if it does not start, or the buttons are mapped differently, please open an issue on GitHub. adb logcat -s SpeedDreamsVR:V TBXR:V prints the runtime it found and the controller profile it bound, which is the useful thing to paste in.

Button names are those of the Meta Quest controllers, PICO controllers use the same layout. The driving controls are a virtual joystick either way, so they can be rebound in Options → Players.

Install from your browser

One click over USB, for Meta Quest and PICO: no SideQuest needed. USB install works in Chrome or Edge on a PC, Mac or Android phone. No PC? Open this page in the Meta Quest Browser on your headset and install it right there.

The installer needs JavaScript. Use the manual download below.

First time? Before you start
  1. Turn on developer mode. Quest: Meta Horizon app on your phone → Devices → your headset → Headset settings → Developer mode. PICO: Settings → General → About → tap Software version 7 times, then Settings → Developer → turn on USB debugging.
  2. Connect the headset to this computer with a USB cable that carries data (not a charge-only cable).
  3. Close SideQuest and Meta Quest Developer Hub. If you use adb, run adb kill-server first: only one program can talk to the headset at a time.
  4. Windows: if the headset doesn't show up in the list, install the Meta Quest ADB driver.
  5. After pressing Connect, put on the headset and allow USB debugging for this computer.
